I use Notepad++ in many ways.
First of all is an excellent text editor and keeps saved your tabs without the risk of information loss (I mean for example you write some notes and then you close the program. Next time you'll launch it you will find those notes). You can save you files choosing from a wide set of extension.
Then it has a lot of features that help me e.g. to transform data files in a readable way for humans (just think about the search and replace, the decode function...).
Plus it runs fast and never hangs. The italian version is well translated, without any weird terms :-) I highly recommend Notepad++

I had previously used Dreamweaver for my source code editing tool. Although it doesn't have the visual layout that Dreamweaver does, I was mostly looking at the source code anyways. Notepad++ did have the visual color coding I was looking for that DreamWeaver had so that I could quickly and easily see sections of code. That is the feature I like most about it.

A feature I don't like, may surprise some, but when I have various tabs open in Notepad++ and close the program, when I open up the program the next time, the tabs all come back, I would much rather see a blank tab and start with a file I want to see instead of the old ones that were open from the last session. I could see how having the old tabs would be a nice feature as a safety net from losing work though.

This free software text-editor is probably my most-used application outside of my usual IDEs and database managers like SSMS. It's always open and I'm constantly pasting code snippets into it while I'm refactoring, or simply writing quick prototypes in whatever language I happen to be using on a given day.

Sometimes I need to write a quick Python script to pull a flat file from an FTP site, transform it and push it into a database; or I'll need to write a Javascript function to reverse the first and last names of a customer. With Notepad++'s syntax highlighting (it really does cover almost every language in use), this developer's life is incalculably more productive.

At one point I used vanilla Windows Notepad for this, but now I can't imagine working without Notepad++. Don't get me started on the plethora of plugins that really make this free software shine.

One really cool thing is when you're editing files that require Admin privileges, it will automatically prompt you to restart Notepad++ using administrator rights, so you can edit without hassle of restarting by yourself manually.

The multi-cursor feature was poorly implemented. Comparing with VS Code or Sublime Text, the double-cursor feature was quite limited, and cannot do many advanced edits in multi-cursor mode.

I use Notepad++ all the time as my primary text editor. I also use it to reformat text cut from other applications - whether the very powerful find & replace or column editing. The language sensitive formatting is very useful and there are so many plugins. When I first started using XML, I downloaded an XML formatter/prettyprinter. Then again for JSON and Gedcom, etc.
I also like that I do not have to explicitly save a file and I always have lots of temporary files. Whenever I want to submit text to a web site, such as a bug report, I first write it in Notepad++, so that I have a copy.

Each time a release comes in, (once a quarter) then it automatically prompts user with a message box to asking to update application or not. It can get annoying if you have Notepad++ installed on multiple machines and if each one starts asking you as you log in.

You often find as a developer that you need to take large amounts of data and reformat it to fit a specific function like creating scripts. Notepad++ has many features that are unlike any other editor I've found.
Specifically, Column Editor (insert into all rows at a specific column), Bookmarking records and the ability to delete bookmarked or non-bookmarked records, and the ability to use Extended characters (like \n, \r, \t, etc) and Regular expressions in the search and replace features.

There is not much to complain about with this software. If anything, there are so many features that, when I first started using it, I would have trouble finding some of the useful features because they were named similarly or just lost in the vast number of features. I've been using it for so long now that all of the features I use are easy to find and use.

This is an amazing and intuitive free software. It is far superior to Microsoft Notepad for every use case I have had--most often inspecting and modifying code or opening large data files. The FTP functionality allows me to save my files directly to the server for immediate testing. Lets you set up multiple ftp sites.

This is a free code/text editor that I've used in windows. You can have multiple tabs of different files open, it will also let you know if a file you have been viewing has been updated outside the program. There are line numbers shown, the lines in the file can be sorted in a number of ways, you can colour code parts of the text . searching is good, find and replace or just find, can even search in files which is very useful. There are many more features that I've not used, but a good help system is available to clarify how to use it. Updates happen quite frequently which shows this is developing all the time

Cons

There are no major issues that I can see, I've used it for many years and is generally my go-to editor. It's not to be confused with programs like Microsoft Word that allow a wider range of formatting and graphic inclusions .

What I like about this is I can make notes without formatting, or use it sometime to remove all the formatting. I always use Notepad++ to compose my emails, as it had language integration and spell checker and on top of that, I can format whatever the way I want in my composition.
The other advantage of Note++ is there plugins to create JSON or to convert ASCII and case conversion are really helpful most of the time.
