About Deltek Costpoint

Deltek Costpoint is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) and management solution designed to meet the requirements of midsize and large enterprise businesses. The solution primarily assists government contractors, professional service firms, and not-for-profit businesses with project management, accounting, labor and material management and business intelligence functionalities. Costpoint is available as both web-based and on premise application. The solution helps to streamline processes like project billing, revenue management, expense tracking and compliance management, enabling businesses to monitor all operations through a single screen. The budgeting & planning module helps in building project budgets and EACs. Costpoint compares the actual project progress against the planned schedule and highlights the achievements and pain points. The "What-If" analysis helps to analyze multiple outcomes of same situations under different circumstances. Some of the other features include time & expense management, contract management, payroll management, reporting and compliance management. Costpoint is used in the variety of industry verticals, including aerospace and defense, high-tech, healthcare, nonprofit and education.

Deltek Costpoint

It gets the job done for my role within the company. It is good for timekeeping tracking as well to split across projects.

Pros

It can be used with third party systems to manage expenses and payments.

Cons

It does not produce the best reporting of amounts when there are negative entries.

Deltek Costpoint 8.1

Deltek Costpoint is our corporate Enterprise Resource Planning system, as well as our primary Business Intelligence tool for Accounting, Financial, and Project Status reporting. There are also flexible options for implementing security, both at the user level as well as the user group level.

Pros

Extensive number of fields available for entering data, highly normalized database structure, Project-based accounting, ability to customize product using built-in Extensibility. Costpoint can be integrated with other products by using the built-in Web Services tool, as well as a number of data pre-processors.

Cons

Some aspects of product are not intuitive. Some processes can take considerable time to complete. Recent version upgrades have been buggy, sometimes containing new bugs that were not present in previous versions. It can take considerable time for bug fixes to be released.

Deltek Costpoint for Timekeeping at Work

Deltek Costpoint has streamlined the process my company uses for time tracking work and for leave requests. It has improvements from the previous Deltek software the company previously used. This version is good for usage overall as it allows time keeping for hour worked as well as time off requests.

Pros

When logging in to Deltek Costpoint, it is easy to log in as your username is saved and it does not require a password entry. It is one less step to complete when trying to sign in for work.

Cons

I must refer to the user manual each time I enter a leave request. It is difficult to remember where to access the information. The dashboard labels for the function are not intuitive for the user.

Pros

Nothing I can think of. The only reason to use Costpoint is when a company I'm employed with forces me to use it.

Cons

Outdated UI from 1995, no thought whatsoever about the user experience or flow, very unintuitive and clunky, the mobile app is even worse.

Deltek Costpoint - integrated and a promising SAAS

With my 3yrs of experience using costpoint, I am very satisfied that it doesn't require too much intervention from the Deltek Team.

Pros

It is an all-in-one HRIS/Accounting software

Cons

The user interface is not so friendly. There are some modules that you have to take courses to understand and use.

Cumbersome

Overall, I wish the system retained it's functionality with an easier to use interface. The reporting in the Costpoint system should be more customizable without having to be a report writer and be forced to use the business intelligence module to build reports from the ground up.

Pros

The system can do almost anything you want it to in terms of setup. There are more options and specifications than any one company could ever need or want.

Cons

Because the system is so customizable from an admin side, it becomes very cumbersome. A single update needs to be made in multiple screens in order for it to show up everywhere and be accessible to everyone. The User Interface is complicated for everyday users and troubleshooting issues is difficult and time consuming because of all the areas where there could be an issue.

Costpoint

This was a lot more time consuming to implement. Other softwares we surveyed before going with CP had a tool that would export our data from quick books into their system. Not sure why CP doesn’t have this feature.

Pros

The reporting feature. We really liked the cognos relationship, and the ability to export directly to excel as well as upload from excel.

Cons

The revenue to income statement. I have never worked with an accounting system where once I created and posted an invoice, the total revenue for that product on the income statement is different then what was billed. I do not understand why I have to tell my system to recognize or “pick up” my revenue. It’s redundant and causes a lot of headaches.

Deltek Costpoint-very user friendly!

We are happy with Costpoint after using it for various years.

Pros

Our team loves how user friendly it is and that it's easy to navigate. I started working at my company in 2019 and have been using it ever since. I also know there are so many other modules I have the ability to learn how to use.

Cons

The search features can be a little tricky at times and there can be a slight learning curve if a user isn't familiar.

Deltek Review

Pros

In my experience, I think one of things I like about Deltek is that it "stops" you from revising previous work without a reason. I think that's incredibly important for the employer.

Cons

One thing I don't like about Deltek is how specific it is. At least in my experience, it doesn't allow up to two decimal points on the timesheet. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but whenever I track it, it would tell me that it can't track it because it differs from what I put in. For instance, if I worked 7.75 hours, I would try to track it as 7.7 or 7.8, but it won't accept it.

I have used Costpoint for 8 years. I have been able to learn a lot.

Reporting, payroll, versatility, project reporting and capture, labor capture

Pros

I love the versatility of this software. It does so much and we can pull a lot of different information. It's very detailed in most areas and we can hold notes as well. Since I work in payroll, I think that the people and payroll modules are most useful for me.

Cons

I really don't like that we can not accrue a non-cash fringe. We have asked and asked for this feature and it has never been considered. All our employees accrue fringe non-cash to use towards benefits.
I also don't like the way the employee garnishments are set up. Every time there is a change to a garnishment (such as the amount in a child support order), I have to stop the garnishment and set up a new one in order to preserve any history. It can be confusing for anyone else looking at someone's file. Also, the note field is to small, doesn't hold enough information for the order (like children or custodial parents) that used to be included in Costpoint 6. I was disappointed when this was removed.

Deltek Costpoint Review

It has been a decent system overall but there is a lack of customization, predictive features, poor reporting features and no updates for several years so other HRIS systems are way ahead of this particular system.

Pros

It is a pretty simple to use software for HRIS data and has a lot of fields to enter. It is great that there is a reporting system to allow for standard and custom reports. There is an immediate entry into the system once changes are made so it is great to get an immediate response.

Cons

There are several cons with the system. First, it has not been updated over several years and no upgrades have been made to keep up with the times. It feels like the system is dated back to the 1980's. There is no predictive searches for employees, there are too many windows for different types of employee data so it is hard to find certain employee data. The reporting is also hard to create custom reports as you have to understand extensive knowledge of Cognos, hard to search fields for employee data and it is clunky. There are no workflows or business rules that can be setup in order to allow for notifications for certain events regarding employee self service.

Easy Timecards

Overall, I've been very pleased in my experience with the software. Entering my time is easier than software used in my last job, and corrections are easier to make. My time cards have been easy to read and understand when going back to review them!

Pros

This software allows a user to easily access their timecards and log their time. Saving favorite codes for items such as contracts worked, favorites, leave, etc. is a breeze.

Cons

I haven't encountered any issues thus far. There can be an overwhelming number of time codes depending on the company you work for.

The system is very straight forward and easy to navigate.

It meets all my HR Technology needs.

Pros

From an HR standpoint, the system is very easy to use and well thought out. The reporting is easy to do for mandatory compliance. It makes our jobs easier. We just starting using the Talent Management last year for applicant tracking and onboarding. Once we go live with the integration from Talent Management to Costpoint, it will create efficiencies for HR and payroll departments.

Cons

Once some is entered and saved in someone's record. It can be hard to remove that person. There also seems to be a lot of hotfixes, but it does make the system better in the long run.

7.1.1 Admin disappointed with the constant updates but the end-users like it

Pros

Our end-users generally have zero complaints with the software. We use it for everything from purchasing and receiving to HR functions.

Cons

I'm not a fan of the new update model they have rolled out with 7.1.1. It seems there are constant updates and, unlike previous versions where you only installed the updates you needed to fix a particular issue, they now expect ALL updates to be installed. I realize they are trying to get away from the need for major revision upgrades by doing this but the load on the IT department is WAY more than it used to be for day-to-day operations.

Brief Overview

Overall, I like Deltek. It is an easy system to use and little training to be able to know how to use (very user friendly).

Pros

I like the display for the calendar, it is easy to add a new line for additional hours billed and keep track all hours. I also think it is easy to navigate the branching time charge. Some companies have a very complicated branching system making it very difficult to locate the correct time charge to add.

Cons

I think it would be helpful if time off, holidays, sick leave was able to be displayed from the main timesheet. It would make a one stop location to have all the information in one place compared to opening up other tabs to trying to locate your balances.

Great functionality but not easy to use

Due to our type of work, it was a great product to use when working government contracts.

Pros

The software had great reports. It's payroll portion was very easy to understand and navigate while processing biweekly checks.

Cons

The software is not user friendly. It took quite some time to learn how to use properly and the reporting function is complicated.

Pros

It does what it needs to do. It is pretty simple to use and get setup, and allows you to track what needs tracking.

Cons

All time tracking is harder then we would like. Deltek at times needs work to be configured to be as helpful as I wish it could be.

A few kinks but easy to use

Pros

The platform is decently organized by Employee/Salary information and Leave information - managing either is simple and the accrual process is easy as well. I manage employee data and leave data but I am not an expert on any of the other system capabilities.

Cons

We've had issues with file feeds that have taken a long time to resolve. There are a few manual processes that need to be done during the accrual process that seem like they should be automated (i.e. removing duplicate beginning balance records when an employee goes from one type of leave to another in the same year).

Incredibly inefficient system

Cons

The amount of keystroking required to complete a simple task is staggering. It takes hours to complete a simple task that should only take minutes to complete due to the number of separate steps required. It's like working with 1970's technology. The system will not allow even minimal customization, i.e. menu fonts/set-ups. I would rather work in an old DOS program than this one.

Long time customer

Reliable and consistent

I started using Deltek costpoint since 2019 and I use it daily. Most of the features on Deltek is intuitive and easy to use. When transferring data from Deltek to Excel, it is easy to transfer.

Pros

Customer service. Especially zoom meeting to resolve issues.
Transferring information from the software to excel in an easy manner.

Growth is a wonderful thing!

I have been using Deltek products for over 20 years and have witnessed the tremendous growth the company has undergone over the years. I have used Advantage, Impromptu, T&E, and Costpoint. I have seen Costpoint grow from a 'DOS' screen to the more user friendly application that it is today. I do appreciate the ease of use and navigation that has been incorporated into the system.

I would like to see more flexibility in the reporting but I understand that other tools fill that requirement. In terms of customer service, I think cases should be evaluated more in detail prior to assigning them to case workers. Often times, we've detailed an issue that we were having and have had customer support fall a little short of solving the problem before moving it to a more seasoned person to assist. By the time that has occurred, precious time has passed.

Overall, Deltek products are an essential part of the government contractor community, well done Deltek!

Improved Support

Pros

My review is from an administration standpoint. When I first started supporting this software, the support from Deltek was less than amazing. Over the last year, I have seen a vast improvement in the quality of the support personnel and the response time. Thank you for making my job easier!

Cons

Installing updates can be difficult at times. I would like to find an easier way to install updates.

Powerful tool

Pros

It covers most aspects a company accounting department would need. A nice all in one tool.

Cons

Not being able to have multiple costpoint windows opened at the same time. On some tabs, the layout is so outdated and not user-friendly that it is hard to navigate without a big screen.

Overall very good, have learned how to use it in the past year

It's easy to use and if you run the same types of reports it's simple to learn when you know nothing about costpoint (like I did not beforehand)

Very user friendly

CostPoint meets my needs in performing my job. The ease of the system makes it a great tool to use.

Costpoint Review

I use Costpoint to add parts, create MBOM's and create DCN's for change management.

Pros

I like the cloning feature

Cons

I would like the DCN process when updating MBOM's to be more user friendly. There are too many options (Add, Change, Remove, Delete, etc.), and then also the same options on the next screen to do the same. When doing the same, it doesn't always mean the same :(
This feature could be fine tuned.
I would also like to see the MBOM process to be automated from our Teamcenter ePIC system to Costpoint. This will eliminate duplication of effort, and lessen the chance of error.

NOT for an ETO Company

Deltek has no idea on how to make a simple, nimble BOM release process that can benefit an manufacturing company.

Pros

I have nothing positive to say about this software. Benefits the smallest group in our company.

Cons

No out of box automation of the ECN process. No PN versioning, every revision is a new ID number. coping from E BOM to M BOM high potential for errors. Quadrupled data administration for my engineering group. Expecting to be pulling Reqs for new employees that engineers not data administrators.

Been using Deltek since 1999

We have had some recent not so positive experience with Support - being told for almost everything to apply the latest patches when they can't show us where in the patches it is going to fix our problem is not encouraging. After working through all the Hot Fix applications - we still have the problem - so, being to to apply them did not help. (Just a bit discouraging.)

Pros

We love the Web version and capabilities - looking forward to Extensibility

Cons

Changing support staff, getting someone from the other side of the world and having to wait until the next evening to get a call back.
