Great tool for time tracking, especially for small projects

We are very content with Harvest. It made tracking our projects and function requests way easier. Which in turn made it easier to see if we sold the projects for a high enough price.

Pros

Easy to use time tracking. We use it every day to see how much time we spent on each project and function. We can easily see how much time was spent and how much time was calculated for the task.

Cons

We do not really have any cons. Exept that it takes quite some time to set it up the right way.

Harvest is a decent tracker

offered a variety of time tracking capabilities but didnt seem to allow you to manually enter in time

Pros

easy to use but wanted to manually enter in time

Cons

too expensive, required constant monitoring

Response from Harvest

Good news! Harvest does allow you to manually enter time instead of running a live timer, if you prefer. Check out this article to see how: http://bit.ly/3AeUdlw. And if you still need help don’t hesitate to reach out to support at [email protected].

Effective and reliable time tracking

Harvest has helped us simplify and streamline our processes while maintaining security and organization. This platform is a solid choice for any company looking for an easy to use and secure platform for time tracking.

Pros

I like its intelligent approach and the ability to track our time, expenses and billing in detail. Harvest gives us a clear view of our resources, allowing us to make informed decisions and stay in control. I also value the security it offers, with measures such as two-factor authentication and data encryption, giving us peace of mind in protecting sensitive information.

Cons

It needs to improve its ability to generate customized reports. Sometimes, we run into limitations when we want to customize reports to fit our needs exactly.

The detailed reports have enhanced our accountability and transparency, crucial for a small business with different clients.

Great time tracking tool

My overall experience is pretty good. I use Harvest on weekly basis and this tool helps our company to track time and then to manage the profitability of our clients.

Pros

It's really easy and intuitive in using. Also Harvest can be integrated with other tools that simplifies a lot it's using. Also weekly automated reports are great

Cons

probably harvest is a tool without disadvantages for me, but it would be great if there is more customization options for generating reports with specific insights and data from tracked time and projects.

Ok, lacks some flexiility though

Pros

- ease of use with jira plugin
- ability to set automatic reminders in case for % project budget usage
- ability to set up different rates for different tasks within a project

Cons

- not able to use multiple currencies, can be painful if e.g. you have costs of employment in one currency but resolve projects in different one
- sometimes finding features in UI was not as easy as it could have been
- lacks automatic reminders about not submitted timesheets
- it would be nice if it allowed "guest account" to share with clients, so as they can track project's budget spent live

Harvest does it well for me!

Harvest does an excellent job of tracking time and is incredibly user-friendly. I rely on the reports feature every week to send detailed time reports to my clients, keeping them well-informed about time spent. Thanks to its comprehensive reporting, I can quickly complete my time reports.

Pros

I appreciate how straightforward Harvest is to use and set up for business. Creating projects is a breeze due to the level of detail provided, and switching tasks during time tracking is also simple.

Cons

The limitation on profiles in the free version was a downside for me. While I understand the reasoning, it poses challenges for established businesses wanting to try it with a full client list.

Easy to use and effective time-tracking software.

Pros

The meaningful and somehow poetic quotes for every day of the week really keep me going. Nice way to get some inspiration while filling up the timesheet.

Cons

Sometimes I completely forget to submit the week for approval. Tracking time on a daily basis is quite easy. however, submitting the week for approval it in the end of the day on Friday might be an extraordinarily difficult task.

The Easiest Time Tracking Tool I Have Ever Used

Great. The software does exactly what it needs to, we have ZERO problems with it, it is affordably priced... what's not to like?

Pros

Harvest is just really really really easy to use. Setting it up is fast and painless, administering jobs is easy, filling out timesheets is easy. Our team had a hard time tracking time prior to Harvest, and once we started using this software it became (almost) painless overnight.

Cons

It isn't really a "con" but Harvest is built to serve agencies who have multiple clients and bill them for work performed. We are an internal department within a company, so we had to work around some of the structural elements built into Harvest, but it was no problem. We easily adopted the platform to meet our needs.

Alternatives Considered

monday.com

Reasons for Choosing Harvest

Team Gantt's interface was clunky, administering it was not intuitive and we had low acceptance / low compliance with our creative teams. Harvest is much simpler to use and now we have virtually no pushback from the teams about timesheet compliance.

Reasons for Switching to Harvest

We chose Harvest over Monday.com because Harvest was much simpler. We preferred that over a bigger more complex tool.

A great all-in-one tool!

Overall, this is an excellent tool and if you paired it with a robust PM tool like Asana (which integrates with it beautifully), you'd have a nice solid tool stack!

Pros

I love how robust Harvest is excellent for tracking all project-related expenses for time and billing. I love that I can plug in different hourly prices per team member or skill set to have a precise report on project costs.

Cons

I don't love Harvest for actually managing project tasks. The highest level, maybe, but not actual PM and forecasting.

Time tracking that fits perfectly with Asana

The fact that it is only in English made the learning progress a little less fluid. I think the UX leaves room for improvement, already. But I find it useful and we use it steadily.

Pros

I’m using Mac and this doesn’t work on Safari (it does in Chrome, however).

Good all in one time tracker

Overall it is a really good software, would highly recommend for businesses small or large.

Pros

I like how employees can track time based off of categories, so it is clear during week-end review where all their time has been allocated. Categories can be broken down by department and project, so billable hours are also clear. Time sheets and project-based hours can easily be exported which makes payroll very seamless. I also like the expense tracker feature as well.

Cons

It is a bit tricky to get used to at first, employees also agree that navigating Harvest as a new user can be a bit overwhelming. I wish there were also more integrations with expense tracking, so accountants can directly receive the expenses for their upcoming payroll. I also wish time off had more integrations, because integrating our HR software to time off tracking would make it more consistent with our records and eliminate the need to check both applications.

Tracking Time is a Breeze

For our small agency, this helps us manage our time and budgets, and makes it easy to pull reports, run detailed invoices, etc. We've been using this app since 2014 and have never had a reason to look for another.

Pros

Harvest is extremely easy to use. It requires no special training in order to get in and get to work. It's easy to edit your entries (i.e. start one project and hop to another, add and edits notes, etc.) I appreciate that it lets me know via email if I've accidentally left my timer running, so I can fix it. I get weekly time summary reports so I can see where my billable time has been spent. And I can run reports to see how much time overall has accrued on each project. I used to be spotty at completing timesheets, but this app makes it easy to do. Our small marketing agency does a great job now of tracking time, which has enabled us to negotiate project costs with clients more accurately.

Cons

There is nothing that is difficult to use.

Harvest is a Freelancer's more affordable time-tracking and invoicing option

Harvest has been a game changer for me. When I started my business I was easily able to track hours, expenses, and bill clients without paying outrageous fees for software that had more than I actually needed (and was challenging to learn).

Pros

The best part about this software--the price. There is a free option for new freelancers, and for my first year, I strictly used that. Even the free version is highly robust. However, I quickly realized I needed something a bit more custom, and I've upgraded to the paid version, but even that is very reasonable.

Cons

I don't really like that you can't send contracts. I feel like if the program includes estimates, it should also have a contract-sending option. I understand it integrates with other contract platforms, but those were so very expensive-—or just didn't appeal to me.

Best time tracking software in the Market!!

Overall, It was a good experience while using the Harvest. It is a powerful tool to manage your tasks and all other personal work. I tried many productivity apps but then again it is overhead to use multiple apps to increase productivity. Instead, I would recommend Harvest for effective time management.

Pros

I liked Harvest's time tracking software. I was finding it difficult to manage time for my project. I tried many time tracking software but could not find any satisfactory software. As I was using ClickUp for taking notes, I saw there was a third-party integration option with other productivity apps like Harvest. I immediately integrated with Harvest and it made my life easy. I downloaded Harvest on all my devices. Now I can use time very effectively. I'd recommend Harvest to all people who are freelancers, software engineers, and students as it is a great productivity tool.

Cons

I think Harvest should provide some user interface for project management. Hopefully they will listen to this feedback and improve the project management feature.

Timetracking and Invoicing Made Easy

In general, I have been very happy with this product. When we originally were researching time tracking and invoicing software this one rose to the surface and it has remained one of the leaders in this space. Having said that, it's not cheap, particularly if you need multiple people on it, so there are definitely options out there that cost less and or are free if that is what you are looking for. It does also provide some integration with Quickbooks that others likely don't have.

Pros

Working in a creative field, I am a person who detests tracking time and invoicing. It takes me out of flow and into a space that doesn't really foster creative ideas or spark the imagination. Harvest makes the process about as painless as possible (let's be real, tracking time will never be entirely painless) and frees me up to focus on what I do and how I best deliver value to my clients and team. For clients that prefer to pay by credit card, it allows you to deliver the invoice via a web portal with the ability to pay via PayPal with your cc.

Cons

I still feel that the project setup scenarios could be simplified and / or streamlined. I've used Harvest for over 10 years and they have consistently added features and addressed certain gray areas that the software couldn't really account for, but I do think that if they were rebuilding the platform knowing what they know now, they would make it even more straightforward and simple from that standpoint.

Reasons for Switching to Harvest

Harvest was simply the best and cleanest designed and most intuitive and user friendly of all of the options that we researched with all the necessary features but not a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles that would be meaningless to most individuals.

Harvest makes time tracking easy

We used to track our time manually in Google sheets, but Harvest changed the game and made things a lot simpler for our employees.

Pros

Sometimes its the simple software that provides the most value. In this case, while Harvest does provide some features that we do not use, it is incredibly simple to understand and use on a daily basis. We feel that we are really utilizing the software to the fullest extent even though we only use it to track time for internal purposes. We don't feel like we are wasting money paying for a software that is only partially utilized.

Cons

I am sure that for some companies the simplicity may not be practical. It really does stick to the basics so it is for a company that doesn't need all of the bells and whistles that I am sure some time tracking software has.

Harvest is a Perfect Solution for Time Tracking and Billing

Everyone in the agency from me, the owner, to all of our team members love using Harvest. It's so easy to use, between the desktop version to the mobile app. It's been a lifesaver to make keeping track of time and budgets for our marketing agency.

Pros

I started my marketing agency in 1999. I used manual, paper solutions for time tracking for the first few years. After much research we found Workamajig in 2004 to switch to an online solution. It served its purpose for many years but everyone struggled with it and found it not user friendly at all. After many attempts we found Harvest in 2018. I played with it for a few days at the end of a month then ripped the bandaid and switched to it on the 1st of a month. It was SO user-friendly everyone loved it out the gate and we have never looked back. It's so great for time tracking and quick insight into projects and budget status at the client, project and task level. I love it!

Cons

It's very hard to complain about Harvest. I really love it. I do wish it had the ability to set budgets for staff by clients/projects so we can see how booked up our team is and better manage their time allocation. There is a second-party project Harvest syncs with to try to do this, but it does not work the way we needed it to so we dropped it after a brief trial.

Operations Coordinator Opinion

Overall experience with Harvest is great. We use it on a daily basis and we don't have any problems to track our time and report that to our customers.

Pros

The possibility to have different task rates for our customers. Uninvoiced report is very usefull if you have correctly configured billiable and non billiable hours.

Cons

I believe they should include the possibility to have different cost rates to tracks. For example, we have different rates to the customer according to the task involved, but you cannot replicate that on the cost view. You can only set one rate per team member.

Harvest is the best choice for Small Business Owners

My overall experience with Harvest has been outstanding. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, straightforward platform to do their invoicing and time tracking.

Pros

What I really like most about the Harvest platform is the ease of use. I have used it for years and it has always been 100% reliable! It is easy to add new clients, set up recurring invoices, and keep track of my projects.

Cons

It would be great if you could handle setting up invoices from their mobile app but this isn't a deal-breaker. I travel often so that would just be nice to have. That said, I can still log in to the desktop site while traveling and do whatever I need.

Clean, Simple to Use, Good Invoicing features. Features for Fixed-fee billing not the best.

We absolutely loved Harvest and could not recommend it highly enough. However, with the change to limit phone support, plus the software's limitations in working with fixed fee pricing (which our industry is moving rapidly to), we're unfortunately in the process of looking for a new time-tracking app.

Pros

1) Clean, simple, easy to use interface for daily time tracking.
2) Ability to monitor team's time real-time
3) Ability to track real-time billable Revenue
4) Invoicing features
5) inexpensive

Cons

1) No real-time phone support.
Originally, Harvest had real-time phone support, but a while back they (suddenly) changed their phone support from real-time to only scheduled appointments. We've often found that support appointments are not usually available until a while later in the same day, or often the next day, which has been difficult because there is no way to get quicker phone support if needed. Appointment blocks are limited to 15 minute, and in our experience, once 15 minutes is up, the rep will say they have to go because the appointment is over, even if the issue has not been resolved yet.
2) Unfortunately, we've found that so far, Harvest's features have not been keeping up well with the industry's transition to fixed-fee pricing. Though the did add fixed-fee features (thank you!), unfortunately, we found that they did not really work well for tracking fixed-fee projects:
- There is currently no way in Harvest to have recurring, monthly fixed-fee projects (so that you can track time/expenses against these.)
- There is currently no way in Harvest to track actual time/costs against fixed-fee project fees
- There is currently no way in Harvest to add a one-time fixed-price charge for a project (i.e. one day of Bookkeeping at $ amount.) Support told me that the only way to do this is to add these charges as expenses. However, expenses are not included in the revenue reports that we rely on to run the practice, because they are seen as expenses and not revenue.

Harvest tracks project hours assigned and used

Daily and weekly resource allocation may be made much easier with the use of forecasting. Easy to use and easy to maintain. A daily or weekly timetable is available to everyone working on the project. Simple to use and simple to keep up to date.

Pros

It's simple to keep track of harvest time. Multiple projects and tasks can be created and assigned to various members of your team. It is possible to keep track of the time spent by each individual and compare it to the total number of hours allotted for the project.

Cons

An outdated and unfriendly user interface. That would be a great and eye-catching interface to view, in my opinion. As a result, it would be the same as receiving a service or conducting research!

One of the best time tracking tool that can be used for project management

Overall experience was excellent, and the steps involved in the setup were very easy. One of its best features is the easy integration with third-party apps like google workspace, google calendar, slack, asana, PayPal, and much more. This is a perfect solution for freelancers, or people who want to track deadlines.

Pros

I like the most that the UI of their software is very simple and intuitive to use. I actively used this software for managing deadlines and managing time to understand how much time is needed for a feature, or task. Some of the tasks that I tracked were like creating a new landing page, creating a portfolio, implementing mobile-friendly UI, etc.Freelancers can also use this tool to keep track of their time, and this software also helps us in generating invoices and track payments.Additionally, it can be integrated with widely used apps like asana, GitHub, slack, Trello, and even payment gateways like Paypal. Excellent software.

Cons

I did not identify any cons so far. It is a very easy-to-use app and provides very good value.

Great for PM, so-so for wage and hour compliance

A great piece of software for project management for sure.

Pros

The best thing about Harvest is how easy it is for employees to use. It took a little to no training to roll this out.

Cons

Overall my biggest gripe with the software is that for some reason it doesn’t track overtime or meal break penalties would still requires our payroll person to go in and calculate all of those manually.

A Nice Product That Became Too Expensive For Me To Justify

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I felt some pains when I moved away from it, but I've actually found a really nice combination of products that does the same thing.

Pros

A very easy-to-use app that lets you track time and clients. End-of-month invoicing is as simple as a few button clicks. Overall, I really like the program.

Cons

The price just wasn't worth it for me anymore. I found I could no longer justify the cost based on free offerings out there in the wild.

Harvest has been our company's time-tracking tool for years now and we will keep using it.

I use Harvest every day and I am happy with it. I am able to quickly review what my team is doing time-wise, how they manage their project budgets etc.
I love the Budget alerts. When set up properly these alerts give us heads up before we have racked extra hours which we have no client agreement for.
The integrations make it easy to mark time with ticket tracking! Yay!
I would recommend Harvest as I have used it for over 5 years now.

Pros

Easy to use with integrations like Asana and Zendesk.
Provides a fast way to draft Estimates and send them for review.
Easy way to draw time reports with a good level of granularity.

Cons

No way to be reminded that you forgot to switch off the timer. I basically do not use it because of that.
Wish there was a search filter by logged time description.

Harvest is our go-to tool for time tracking and invoicing!

My overall experience with Harvest has been excellent. We've been a loyal customer for years and plan on keeping it that way for the foreseeable uture.

Pros

I love how easy to use and convenient Harvest is for time tracking and invoicing. It's been a tool that our business has used from the very beginning. I love its simple interface and the recent upgrades have been even more awesome!

Cons

There's not much to dislike about Harvest. I only wish it had the same capabilities as more complicated bookkeeping software such as Quickbooks so we could eliminate having additional software for more advanced accounting capabilities.
