## Reviews

### "ModMed Review: Exceptional Specialty Charting Hindered by High Costs and Administrative Friction" — 5.0/5

> **Sriprada** | *8 August 2026* | Pharmaceuticals | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: What stands out most about ModMed (Modernizing Medicine) is its specialty-specific, touch-native design that eliminates the clunky, generic workflows of traditional Electronic Health Records (EHRs). Built directly by practicing specialists in fields like dermatology, orthopedics, and gastroenterology, it features an interactive anatomical atlas optimized for iPad that allows clinicians to tap body diagrams to instantly generate structured SOAP notes, billable ICD-10/CPT codes, and prescriptions during patient visits. By integrating these adaptive, specialty-tailored templates with ambient AI scribing and end-to-end practice management into a single cloud suite, ModMed dramatically reduces documentation time, minimizes administrative burnout, and speeds up revenue cycles for specialized practices.
>
> **Cons**: Despite its strengths in specialty documentation, ModMed falls short due to high pricing, rigid multi-year contracts, and mediocre customer support that can leave practices stuck when issues arise. While the iPad clinical interface is strong, its administrative and Practice Management side is far less polished, featuring rigid financial reporting, tedious manual coding required for third-party lab integrations, and frustrating feature gaps that force staff to constantly switch between mobile and desktop browsers. Combined with occasional system lag during concurrent multi-user editing, these drawbacks create operational friction and high overhead for smaller or fast-growing medical practices.
>
> The overall experience with ModMed is defined by an outstanding, specialty-tailored clinical interface balanced against notable administrative and financial friction. Clinicians consistently praise its intuitive iPad application, specialty-specific exam templates, and adaptive AI coding, which streamline point-of-care documentation and significantly reduce post-visit charting time. However, overall satisfaction is often tempered on the administrative side by complex reporting, restrictive multi-year contracts, steep per-user pricing, and slow customer support response times when technical or billing issues arise. Ultimately, ModMed offers a best-in-class EHR workflow for specialized medical practices, provided the team is prepared to navigate its high cost and administrative overhead.

### "If your practice is loaded, it's for you." — 4.0/5

> **Jean** | *1 June 2026* | Hospital & Health Care | Recommendation rating: 6.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Mod Med is comprehensive, allowing a physician to keep thorough notes, save procedure images and participate with MIPS and the like.
>
> **Cons**: The cost is exorbitant and the support can be very poor with delayed responses. Also, the billing was often inaccurate, necessitating tickets, calls, etc.
>
> Overall, the platform is excellent but support is poor, billing accuracy is poor and the cost is exorbitant.

### "Amazing Update \!" — 5.0/5

> **LIDIA** | *9 June 2026* | Medical Practice | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: it has improved tremedously, the AI intergration makes it a lot better for the documentation part of a patient's visit.
>
> **Cons**: Well, like everything, new updates have positive and negative aspects, the only thing that makes me a bit hesitant, is the part that sometimes the AI does not capture everything. Still to this day, EMA freezes, and that slows things down.
>
> Still think that this is the best EMR in the industry, that as a MEdical Assistant I have worked with.

### "High Cost, Low Flexibility: A Cautionary Experience with Modernizing Medicine" — 2.0/5

> **Danny** | *6 May 2026* | Health, Wellness & Fitness | Recommendation rating: 0.0/10
>
> **Pros**: What I like most about Modernizing Medicine is its streamlined, single-page layout, which makes it easy to navigate key sections like past medical history, surgical history, and the assessment and plan without jumping between screens. The interface is intuitive and allows quick access to essential clinical information.

Additionally, the order templates are efficient—commonly used labs and medications can be bundled together, which reduces repetitive tasks and improves workflow efficiency in daily practice.
>
> **Cons**: Despite its high cost, approximately $800–$1,000 per user per month, plus additional fees for services like faxing and integrations.Modernizing Medicine lacks some basic functionality that is standard in lower-cost EHRs.

For example, lab ordering is not fully optimized. Many labs are not preloaded with CPT codes, requiring manual entry for each test and each lab vendor (e.g., Quest or LabCorp). This creates a significant administrative burden, as practices may need to input hundreds or even thousands of codes to enable proper lab transmission and barcoding. In contrast, lower-cost systems such as Practice Fusion often have these features built in from the start.

Additionally, the note structure is not ideal. The assessment and plan are not clearly paired together, which can make documentation less intuitive and harder for other providers to quickly interpret. This impacts clinical communication and reduces overall note clarity.
>
> Overall, my experience with Modernizing Medicine has been poor, primarily due to its lack of flexibility and rigid contractual structure. I entered into a five-year agreement at approximately $800+ per user per month for a two-provider setup. When my practice transitioned to a single provider, I was unable to reduce the number of users, despite multiple discussions with their team.

The contract is highly restrictive, there is little to no ability to downgrade, and even in the setting of major practice changes, such as selling a practice, the financial obligations remain in place. This creates significant long-term risk for smaller or evolving practices.

From a value standpoint, the cost is difficult to justify. The platform is expensive relative to competitors like Practice Fusion, yet lacks key functionalities such as fully integrated lab ordering with preloaded CPT codes and seamless transmission to major labs like Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp.

Overall, between the high cost, limited flexibility, and operational inefficiencies, I would advise practices especially smaller or independent groups to carefully review contract terms and consider alternative EHR options.

### "We enjoy ModMed" — 4.0/5

> **Sarah Kate** | *23 September 2025* | Hospital & Health Care | Recommendation rating: 9.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Our practice works out of two separate EMR systems so we are able to see functionality out of both systems and compare. We love ModMed and wish they offered Cardiology so we could switch all of our practices over to just ModMed. We currently use it for Dermatology and Allergy \& Asthma. The practice management side is extremely user friendly. As I work on the Administrative side, I cannot personally speak for the Clinical side but our physicians seem to think it is user friendly and are happy with their purchase.
>
> **Cons**: Customer support could use some work. It seems when we have some issues, it is extremely difficult to get someone to speak with you directly on the phone rather than by email. This delays fixing things.
>
> Overall, we really enjoy the functionality of ModMed. We like that it is web based and we seem to not have too many issues with it.
