Taken our hosting offering to a new level

I love the system and we plan to move our other servers over to it.

Pros

The flexibility of the software allows us to move our clients into the system easily and also works with the plans we have for the future without the new to change software.

Cons

There are lots of menus to get your head around when setting up, but its part of its flexibility

Most widely used, a bit pricey for some

I'd give it a 90%, mostly good.

Pros

I love WHMCS's invoice creation and client management system, as it is super easy to customize the portal and create invoices and such.

Cons

The price and the ability to customize invoices. WHMCS's price is more expensive compared to others, and the invoices look bland sometimes.

It has a simple interface and is very easy to use. It's also very dependable, with great features and addons. The support team is also quick and has been a big help whenever i needed it.

Great Billing and Automation Software for Hosting Management

Pros

WHMCS has helped me manage my domains and hosting packages without any hassle. It is also easy to integrate with WHM and Cpanel. The Ticketing system and the options to create predefined replies make customer support a lot easier and more convenient to handle.

Cons

It takes a while to fully understand how to use the software and set up or customize the theme template to our liking. Additionally, the subscription is also a bit pricey as well.

The best system for small Hosts to make 'hosting' profitable (by removing loads of admin)

Outstanding product from an outstanding company. Would highly recommend it.

Pros

The fact that everything can be achieved from the single system, and tied directly to WHM, is a godsend for small hosts to act like big hosts.

Cons

Similar to WHM, you need to know what you are doing to setup and run WHMCS. It's quite a technical product (obviously), and not everything is intuitive for 'non-techs'.

WHMCS - An automatic choice for Hosters

WHMCS has been helping me run my hosting business with ease. Though it still needs lots of improvement, it is still the only choice for hosters as there is hardly any competition.

Pros

WHMCS is designed specifically for hosters and almost 80% of hosters worldwide rely on WHMCS for billing automation.

Cons

1. No 5 years and 10 years option available for hosting and other services.2. Too much expensive3. Lack of quality reports.

The Best Online Invoicing System for Your Business

In a word... Reliable. Once set up, it's very easy for my business and customers to use. My business particularly likes that we can save a backup copy of the database and restore it, without having to make any changes to files. I've never had an issue with WHMCS - Ever. The only time I needed support resulted from something I did, and they were happy to get me back on track. My customers like that they can log in to purchase services, request support, pay invoices, and share invoicing access to their accountants. I genuinely recommend this software to any other business.

Pros

There are so many features, that it makes WHMCS a system that can better integrate into your business. In particular the automated billing feature is a huge time saver, and improves the speed and which invoices are satisfied. I also use it to provide customized services, and when a customer approves the quote, and invoice is automatically issued - I don't need to do anything extra. It also has a support ticket system, which more than one has helped my business sell services, and keep my customers happy with timely, well managed support. Speaking of support... The support team at WHMCS are stellar! They have helped me every time I've needed them, and have often exceeded my expectations. Also, this software is regularly updated, so that my business billing system is kept at pace with current technology. The ability to integrate with multiple payment gateways, also makes it that much more useful, both for my business and customers.

Cons

It's a bit on the expensive side - But having said that, you get what you pay for. My business paid for a top-notch solution, and that's what I got. You do need some technical knowledge if you are going to run this software on your own server, or you can use the "clouded" version.

It's fine for starting businesses

Pros

Back in 2014, as I was looking for a CRM platform that could handle hosting customers, WHMCS was the way to go. As my company grew, it was time to invest in add-ons, like integrating Zendesk, Freshdesk and Google Suite reseller portal with our system. ModulesGarden provided us the necessary functionality, but as their policy changed to SaaS, our annual costs raised by over 600%.

Without doubt, WHMCS is a great platform. But without the necessary functionality, larger companies will have to invest.

Cons

Price, design and functionality. The admin panel looks outdated, their price policy has changed and the functionality needs improvement. I definitely recommend WHMCS to other my colleagues, but it's not perfect.

Response from WHMCS

Hi there,
I'm pleased to hear that WHMCS has been providing your business automation needs for several years; we pride ourselves on our longevity.

Our platform is designed with some specific industries in mind and we have a number of developer resources available which allow it to be extended to meet individual needs. The policies and pricing of external vendors and developers is outside our control.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review!

WHMCS Review

It's very useful to have records of every transaction as clients sometimes come back and want to know how much they spent in a prior year. Generating invoices on it's own is a huge time saver for me. You can also convert a quote, once approved, into an invoice to save time. It's also nice to be able to save a draft before you publish and send in case you've made an error on the invoice.

Pros

It's easy to generate invoices and accept payments. The system tracks all client's support tickets, invoices, and which products they've purchased. It automatically generates notices of invoices coming due or services about to expire. It automatically generates invoices for products on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual basis.

Cons

The "Time & Task Manager" feature never works the way it's supposed to. I have to manually deduct hours spent on support tickets and add hours when a client pays for their support agreement. Also, when setting up a client, or generating an invoice, you have to save twice. When adding a contact, you also have to save the information once, then click 'activate' and save again.

Response from WHMCS

Hi Nancy,
It's great to hear WHMCS has been saving huge amounts of your time with invoicing and record keeping.

Needing to save things twice doesn't sound right to me though. Please do let me know the details and I'll be happy to investigate.

Pros

Cons

Software is very buggy. There is a lot os security issue, GDPR violation. If you are submitting a bug in WHMCS to help then, support always said that this is not a bug and "Please, submit a feature request".

Easy to manage billing systems

Overall it's a streamlined and intuitive billing system that makes managing accounts, invoices, and other billing tools easy and fast.

Pros

A wide variety of search features and functions for locating accounts by any number of metrics is very useful for customers who don't know their account details or have mystery charges we're searching. There's a lot of areas to leave notes on accounts and individual products, and the custom contact metrics for emailing special offers are great

Cons

This may be something specific with our integration, but it's not always convenient that accounts are merged automatically if a new account generates with the same email address. Sometimes it's a customer ordering for family who have separate billing details but they help setup/manage the account, or business accounts end up together that shouldn't but are managed by the same office manager who uses their email, etc.

Response from WHMCS

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. It's great to hear that the reporting features are helping you keep track of business metrics.

I'm a pretty happy customer, though the issues with updating on a Windows Server are frustrating.

Pros

Once a customer and project is set up in WHMCS, it's virtually set and forget and the automation processes handle the rest (to an extent).

Cons

Implementing patches/updates for WHMCS when installed on a Windows Server can be very difficult and time consuming.

Terrible product

It is a real challenge to deal with WHMCS on everything. It is also hard to trust such a morally bankrupt company.

Pros

It does integrate well with cPanel and domain registries.

Cons

There are so many issues with WHMCS, including support. Also there are now additional sneaky fees that were not agreed to. We purchased a lifetime license and then WHMCS discontinued the license, increased prices 800% and offered no refund. It is very poorly maintained software, full of bugs and the support team is well below par.

Pros

Cons

It will not work on servers with very few resources, it needs a lot of resources to run the panel interface compared to other control panels.

Great billing software

Overall, I am happy using this software and would recommend it as automation is always a good thing. And with that, I must add that reliable automation is what WHMCS has to offer.

Pros

Works great and automates your billing system seamlessly. Also sets reminders and can disable accounts for non-payments. You can also run daily cron backups, which is a big plus.

Cons

Some features can be a little complicated, but once set up, the complications are behind you. One plus, yet drawback, is that WHMCS has so many features, it may seem way too hard to understand all that needs to be set properly to your needs. It just takes time and patience.

Response from WHMCS

Thanks Craig, we're happy to hear WHMCS is automating your business and making your operations seamless. Great tool for automate your business

Pros

You can automate and configure many processes of your company such as payments, customer support, emails sending, you can create digital products and configure them to give access to customers.

It has so many tools. Basically i use it because I work with customer service. It has a tickets system with which you can answer to customers, follow-up cases, assign the case to another team member for solution. It's easier to communicate with customer using WHCMS's predefined answers. You save a lot of time.

It allows you to bill customers and automate payments every month, every year, as you prefer.

If you have a web hosting business this may be very usefull for you. It also allows fully automated hosting account setup and management with domains.

Cons

As cons i must say it's not too intuitive, it you will need to read the documentation in order to do some tasks.

Many payments gateways are already integrated just have to setup API to start accepting payments.

Cons

I liked how WHMCS handled every aspect of the hosting experience. From billing to service provision, WHMCS automated a lot of the work required to keep things running smoothly.

Cons

I'm not a big fan of the new license structure and/or tiers.

Still the best hosting software

Pros

WHMCS has an exemplary user interface and good email templates, it is easy to integrate on the server and start selling hosting services

Cons

The tool is charged depending on the users you expect to have and thus making it more expensive

Flexibility, but at a cost

I realize my Cons is a lot longer than my Pros section, don't let me mislead you, we still use it here and I would cautiously recommend WHMCS as long as prospective users understand what they're getting into. All in all it works, it is so widely used that many customers are familiar enough with it that it smooths over the quirks, and it is very *very* flexible and extendable.

Pros

Most of the features really do just work, at least if you have an understanding of what WHMCS will and will not do for you. It's flexible, extendable, and for the most part is reasonably well documented.

It is great that you can resell tons of different servers all from one WHMCS platform, although they definitely do have their favourites.

Cons

The support team has been a mixed bag at best. Not every interaction has been negative, but not a lot have been great experiences.

One simple example from a little while ago that exemplifies the problem: a WHMCS update broke catastrophically. It turned out to be a minor bugfix (and required security hotfix) used a new PHP function that was not supported on all versions of PHP their website claimed they support. I contacted WHMCS and their only remedy was to upgrade PHP. I know supporting older versions of products is a pain, and they had already announced the next major version would not run on my version of PHP, but this bugfix was specifically still supposed to be supported. There was not even any opportunity to revert to a working version as the upgrade made non-reversible changes to the database schema (restoring a database backup was possible, but this would undo any customer-initiated changes in the days it took to understand what was happening, so this was not viable).

Prior to the acquisition (many years ago) their support team was excellent but it has been a hit-or-miss experience of late.

End-users (my customers) tend to find the overall experience with the default theme difficult to navigate. Now in fairness I do tend to attract less technical users who need a bit more hand-holding in general, but even simple concepts like paying an invoice are hit and miss whether users figure it out. One example, paying multiple invoices at once generates an extra invoice that

Pros

WHMCS has already made email templates that saves me time creating emails for orders manually. I like the instant provisioning of services

Cons

The software is hard to customize and to set to integrate with other software, it require technical knowledge to use it with Flutterwave

Very powerful, very complicated.

My experience with WHMCS has been largely positive. Once it's setup and running it works very well. The software is under active development and the help files, documentation and forum are very helpful. The support staff are very helpful and the forum usually has the answer to any questions.

Pros

The software does virtually everything you need it to do, and with the addition of "addon" modules, WHMCS is very customisable.

Cons

It is very complicated, with a steep learning curve.

WHMCS - Best invoicing and support software for your hosting business

I use WHMCS for 7+ years now. It makes my invoicing very easy, I can keep up with customers and their billing without spending too much time. The invoice reminders and automatic updates makes my work easier. I am able to add billing items quick, as I finish my work on a project. I can add a billing item to the user next invoice or bill it right away. I mostly use the invoicing features and reports. I may use the support ticket system later on. I am very happy with WHMCS, it saves me time and help me collect payments in a timely manner.

Pros

WHMCS offers a variety of features, as billing & invoicing, large number of integrated payment methods, customer support ticket system, integration with CPanel, selling domains and hosting packages to your customers and much more. I like the automatic recurring invoicing the most, including automatic reminder before and after a missed due date. I like the customer ability to pay online, by clicking the link in the invoice email and going to the payment page. It has many useful reports, for specific periods, type of customers, taxed or not and more. I also like that they always improve the software to work with the current version of PHP/MySQL. It is an essential software for my business.

Cons

Related to functionality everything works fine. The only downside: updating is a bit expensive, 99.95 USD/year.

Response from WHMCS

Hi Lucian,
Thanks for taking the time to share your comments.
I'm very pleased to hear that WHMCS has the best invoices and support software for your hosting operation for the best part of a decade!

We're continuing our history of supporting new technologies by introducing support for PHP 7.3 very soon!

Good Customer Management & Hosting Billing Solution

The main benefit is automation. With a growing company, the small, important tasks can take up your entire day. It's important to trust a reputable software with those tasks so you can focus on your customers.

Pros

WHMCS has come a long way in a short amount of time. They seem receptive to user input, which is always a plus for me.

Ultimately, it's a well-rounded solution for managing your web hosting business's customers and billing. There are many add-in options by WHMCS as well as third-party developers to help you achieve just about any task, automation, or feature that you may require.

The fact that third-party developers are welcome to develop for this software is important to me. I've often hired out to have an add-on module created to my specifications.

The support forums are a fantastic resource as well. There are quite a few people who generously offer their time to help each other.

Cons

The updates can be temperamental, which can get frustrating when you're running a business. It seems to be common for users to wait quite some time before upgrading to the next version, just to make sure the kinks are worked out.

Response from WHMCS

Hi Amber,
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback.
Customer feedback really is the primary driver of the development of WHMCS, and we like to see that comes across.

We look forward to automating your business operations for years to come!

Very efficient, easy to use, easy accounting and great support. Perfect for domains and...

1. Great GUI. Simple enough to make sure the user has an easy time accessing the many features easily.
2. Great automation options that let the system do most of the 'leg work' and the user's role is limited to only monitoring and so allowing for more time for them to concentrate on marketing of the features.
3. Has adequate security features to allow for secure transactions between the clients and the system with minimal or no exploitation gaps
4. Great notification systems to allow for an automated and easy communication to clients.

Pros

Its wide variety of features that allow for many add-ons to the system depending on the users needs.
The automation (once setup perfectly) allows users to control and maintain countless products and services easily and efficiently as all the details on specifics are easily accessible from the administrative user accounts.
Very efficient accounting features i.e. invoice generation, email setup and SMS feature just to mention a few that once configured with the proper cron jobs allow for easy and professional host-to-client communication.
The encryption by IONCUBE ensures very good security on the important files thus thoroughly reducing insecurity issues such as hacking.

Cons

Most of the best add-ons are not free and require constant renewals.
The branding of the system (but this mostly depends on the license purchased). It should consider the uprising businesses (SMEs).

Great product but missing critical features and their support needs serious help

good but needs better admin support, and needs to be reachable by instant message, not only email forms.

Pros

The product is great all around, the main issue is that certain features are missing, reports are limited, upgrading is not so simple it could mean a migration and reintegration if the core OS has to be upgraded along with it.

Cons

Important feaures are non-existent, like Invoice merging, invoice moves and transfers, and there needs to be more useful reporting where fields can be added or subtracted. the support team is NOT meticulous and does a bare minimum sloppy job, if you are a total novice do not rely on them, they failed to check the date and time, cron of the server, and didnt even bother to ensure the directories are correct. very lazy and sloppy.

Great Billing Software

Best of all for Automation and Billing.

Pros

We have been using WHMCS from 6 years now. It has been the most valuable software to operate our business either from billing to automation of our corn task.

Cons

Only thing I don't like about WHMCS is their mobile application. It's to much slow and full of bugs. For the well established company like WHMCS that's something that they need to consider about.

Never Again!

Pros

I use to believe WHMCS was the Bees Knees until I figured out how limited the software actually is & how support for the platform has completely dissolved.

Cons

I could write a whole essay on how horrible WHMCS is, unless you're just needing a basic billing/support ticketing system. (Read my Review on SuiteDash) - The support is next to criminal in that you submit a support ticket, then you don't hear back for several days. In addition to that, if you're looking to do almost anything else other than invoicing & support tickets, do yourself a favor & forget it. WHMCS is one of the most limited platforms on the market unless you want to hire a PHP/HTML/CSS professional to make the look & functionality of your WHMCS installation not look like it crawled out of the computer from the Twilight Zone Episode "From Agnis With Love" - STAY AWAY - unless you think you'll be the next big hosting company, then go for it!

Very bad customer support - 13 days wasted - 2 months management team don't reply

Very bad customer support.

Pros

Easy to use software but same time very bad customer support team.

Cons

[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] and related other tickets

- 13 days wasted of client
- Very bad customer support, staff there is not helpful to customer
- They are working for formalities to make ticket answered
- 2 months their management still did not got time to reply on escalated cases.
- Charging already 3x to what they used to for 10 years for this 10x worst service support

Don't dare to kill customer's voice if you did I will make sure it cost your company sufficient enough to ensure your management don't do any wrongful business practices to kill user voice just because they posted a real bad review for the bad service experience provided by your support team and wasted his 13 days time over WHMCS bug/errors.

I finally reported already to your team that it was a bug in your own WHMCS app that it was having collision with ticket number and thus ticket were not imported. Your team never helped and 13 days wasted by me over this concern. You shall compensate for the time wasted of the client.

Very bad customer service. They don't value customer association for more than 10 years.

Now don't have excuse of holidays they just started your management put my case on hold for more over 2 months. So don't say its holidays it just started the holidays earlier it was not.

with regards,
Anand

Cons

WHMCS should offer a low price license for small resellers and entrepreneurs. Their license starts from $5/month when their partners and many hosting company offer that same license at as low as $2/m or even free bundled with their products

An absolute neccessity for webhosts of all sizes

Whmcs with its numerous features allows the automatic running of a webhost business without a lot of staff intervention. It is as invaluable for large teams as it is for small ones allowing even a team of 2 or 1 to run a conplete business.

Pros

Whms has nearly all of the functionality out of the box, that you would need to run a webhosting business. It has a webportal for customer self service and once you intergrate with a mailing system it can be programmed to take users through all processes.

Cons

The biggest asset of whmcs is also its downfall. By providing alot of features it means it has quite a steep learning curve and is almost impossible to get it fully setup without the assistance of an expert.

No longer cares about the customer

WHMCS used to be a good company. They no longer care about their customers though. They're more interested in adding products to Market Connect that they get a cut of the profits than doing what PAYING customers are asking them to. While I used to would have recommended this to everyone, I come closer to viewing it as a cash grab or scam now and would recommend it only to my enemies.

Pros

Software used to be awesome and easy to use. It isn't anymore.

Cons

No longer easy to use.
Proper setup alone takes days.
Every update breaks every theme for the last 1.5 years.
Software's become so bloated less tech savvy customers have a hard time using it.
Invoicing system is terrible and requires research to even see what you're paying for.

Response from WHMCS

Hi Clayton,
Thanks for your review.

With software as powerful as WHMCS, there are a lot of options to consider, so we've made efforts to smooth the learning curve for new users. This takes the form of a setup wizard, new written guides and a setup checklist on the "Setup" menu.
The MarketConnect features are another direct result of user feedback to make configuration easier with the added benefit of increasing the profitability and richness of your own product offerings. With one click you can sell new products with a level of automation and cost prices which otherwise would not be available to SMEs.

We appreciate that updating custom templates 3 times per year isn¿t the most fun task in the world, but that is necessary when the public and client-facing UI is customizable. To ease this process, we publish full diffs on our GitHub Repro, which you can manually compare or use git to automatically merge changes; meaning templates updates only need take a matter of minutes.

Together with WHM, WHMCS provides a total hosting and billing automated solution

WHMCS (along with WHM) completely automates the ordering, account setup and hosting services of several of my clients, leaving them free to respond to support requests and develop new products. The overall cost of ownership has been low, and the features it provides have paid for themselves several times over.

Pros

WHMCS is very full featured and reliable system, offering just about all the tools you need to provide hosting services to customers. It can work in tandem with a server running WHM to automate the entire processs, allowing you to focus on developing new products and services. There are a multitude of third-party modules available, offering just about any features you may require (such as CRM capabilities, or specific payment gateways). WHMCS is reliable, and my clients make use of it every day for taking orders, managing products, and responding to support tickets.

Cons

The update process can be cumbersome, particularity if you have customized the product in any way, however the support for WHMCS is very good, and usually problems are easy to deal with. I do always try to update our of usual business hours, just in case.
