> dbForge Monitor is a free add-in for Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) that aims to track and analyze SQL Server performance. It provides detailed statistics about the servers and databases and detects all performance issues and bottlenecks for the database admins to fix them proactively.  

This software is convenient and lightweight. It integrates with SSMS seamlessly and delivers the information directly into the SSMS interface in real-time.

Some notable features of dbForge Monitor for SQL Server include:

Monitoring Dashboard. In this section, you can access a complete picture of your SQL Server instances’ performance. The Overview tab shows all the real-time critical metrics you need to know, such as CPU and memory usage, disc activity, read and write latencies, IO latencies, and more. 

Databases Overview. The summary of the most essential metrics is provided for all user databases. With this information, administrators can identify any issues immediately and delve deeper, if necessary, by switching to the performance information tab. 

SQL query analyzer. The Monitor tool analyzes the performance of SQL queries executed on the server and reports those putting a strain on the system. In the user interface, admins can access the list of such queries and their text and profiling information. When the root cause of the system overload is clear, the problematic queries can be fixed effectively. 

Alerts and notifications. SQL Monitor allows the database administrators to configure various alerts and notifications to get informed about performance issues. The alters cover CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, query execution time, deadlock, and blocked processes. Alerts can come by email, be played as sound notifications, or be custom actions. 

Sessions. The tool offers real-time tracking of active sessions across all databases. The admins can see the users logged in, the applications they are using, and the load they're generating. Besides, the Monitor tool displays how each database user is consuming system resources. With the help of this information, administrators can define and manage user access effectively and optimize system performance for better productivity.

Wait Statistics. With this module, the SQL Monitor users can identify resources that are slowing down the server's performance. This feature delivers detailed information about the wait type and duration, and the wait count. This information allows the database administrators to quickly define and resolve bottlenecks, and thus improve the system performance and productivity.
