About MySQL

MySQL is a scalable database management system, which enables organizations to securely record, update and manage data in compliance with GDPR, PCI, HIPPA and various regulatory standards. Features include data masking, audit, de-identification, real-time monitoring, provisioning, patching and authentication. The ACID-compliant solution comes with a query analyzer, which helps developers gain visibility into query activities and execution, identify problematic queries and filter out specific issues such as full table scans and bad indexes. Using MySQL Workbench, professionals can perform database modeling, develop queries, configure servers, migrate databases and automate backup and recovery. Administrators can use the Enterprise Firewall, its intrusion detection feature to block SQL injection attacks and prevent data loss. MySQL also helps developers set up custom warning thresholds for collected metrics and track configuration changes. It is available both as open-source and on annual subscriptions. MySQL Products include: MySQL HeatWave, our fully managed database service, for OLTP, OLAP, & ML workloads. MySQL Enterprise Edition for delivering business-critical, enterprise database applications. MySQL Enterprise Edition for ISVs, OEMs and VARs who want a proven, low cost, embedded database. MySQL Benefits include: Ease of use: Developers can install MySQL in minutes, and the database is easy to manage. Reliability: MySQL is one of the most mature and widely used databases. It has been tested in a wide variety of scenarios for more than 25 years, including by many of the world’s largest companies. Organizations depend on MySQL to run business-critical applications because of its reliability. Scalability: MySQL scales to meet the demands of the most accessed applications. MySQL’s native replication architecture enables organizations such as Facebook to scale applications to support billions of users. Performance: MySQL HeatWave is faster and less expensive than other database services, as demonstrated by multiple standard industry benchmarks, including TPC-H, TPC-DS, and CH-benCHmark. High availability: MySQL delivers a complete set of native, fully integrated replication technologies for high availability and disaster recovery. For business-critical applications, and to meet service-level agreement commitments, customers can achieve Recovery point objective = 0 (zero data loss) and Recovery time objective = seconds (automatic failover) Security: Data security entails protection and compliance with industry and government regulations, including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Security Technical Implementation Guides. MySQL Enterprise Edition provides advanced security features, including authentication/ authorization, transparent data encryption, auditing, data masking, and a database firewall. Flexibility: The MySQL Document Store gives users maximum flexibility in developing traditional SQL and NoSQL schema-free database applications. My Experience With MySQL

I have been using MySQL since 2005. At the beginning of using it, I didn't create a backup and lost one of my websites. Until I purchased a back-up service, I did back-ups myself and it was very time consuming because of my website size. Now, with a back-up service my database is always safe. MySQL is a very sturdy platform as it has always been a great foundation for my websites over the years.

Pros

The MySQL interactive program makes it easy for anyone to create a simple database that connects with it. I have created many such databases over the years without problems. It usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

Cons

If a MySQL database is hacked or there is a bug, it cannot be repaired or replaced in most cases without a backup. Backups must be done on a regular basis. There is usually a cost for back-ups.

A thinking about MySQL

Pros

MySQL is an extremely sophisticated and adaptable open-source relational database management system. It is simple to set up and operate, and it is extremely flexible, allowing customers to personalize the system to their individual requirements. MySQL is an excellent solution for businesses of all sizes due to its extensive range of features and capabilities.

Cons

It can be troublesome to import big MySQL databases from one host to another. Remember that there may be website issues, process breakdowns during uploading or importing that require you to restart, or the import that does not fully transfer everything. I've figured out a way around this multiple times with only a massive dump. Other than that, it has gotten better with time, and as of the most recent version, I have to say that it is performing flawlessly.

Simple yet powerful

Pros

Very simple to get started with and take advantage of a broad set of features. Low learning curve to master it. In depth documentation with a large community support. Plethora of robust tools to support it, like the MySQL Workbench.

Cons

There are some not so intuitive functionalities that you have to look up the documentation to understand and work around. One of them is killing a query in process. Also, the profiler tool is not as powerful as some of the competitor DBMS.

Starting My Database Journey with MySQL: Challenges and Comforts

I began my university projects with this software, and at first, I had difficulty adapting to its tools, which were not very user-friendly. However, on the other hand, I feel comfortable knowing that my information is secure with the software. It is of good quality and security, and it has also been useful to me in data migration. I started my professional journey with this software, and it helped me learn the fundamentals of databases for my future projects.

Pros

I have been using it for a year, and I like its compatibility with various applications and its secure, reliable software for storing requested information. The best part is that it is scalable to use in small personal projects and can be scaled up for use in large organizations.

Cons

What I liked the least is that it can get confusing in many tools and can be challenging for new users who start using this software; it can be complicated.

Review Of MySQL

Other relational database management solutions are simply too complex for me, thus this really helps. Thus, I choose MySQL because I knew it was simple to learn but didn't anticipate it to be this simple to understand. As a result, it saved me a lot of time and is ideal for me.

Pros

MySQL is the most economical and accessible database management system. Furthermore, it is the most widespread DBMS. I need to use the host and port number to connect to the database, and I can instantly build simple queries for data retrieval and insertion. Also, because read queries appear to be written in ordinary English, they are considerably simpler to interpret.

Cons

My knowledge indicates that MySQL is not the best choice for handling complicated or large volumes of data. MySQL is not the best choice for applications that require to manage data in real-time.

An unlimited world in the database

MySQL can serve almost all users thanks to the multi-platform it supports. It has an easy and simple interface design. It provides an easy and efficient working environment thanks to its relational database feature. resource consumption is close to minimum considering the results it provides. free versions are also at a level that can meet almost all demands.

Pros

Compared to its competitors on the market, its free versions, multi-platform support and a powerful engine make it one step ahead of many software. It is ideal for integrating with other software in a much wider framework and communicating with data much faster, especially outside of patterns. Although it has minimum resource consumption, it offers maximum performance. A limited number of rows can process data without locking and deliver results quickly. In the paid versions, you can make transactions at the corporate level or commercially.

Cons

You should plan your preferences and needs well. If you cannot communicate well the session software and database software you will use, this may cause you problems. You should read the release notes well and activate the latest software.

Best open source tool for beginners trusted by enterprises.

I use MySQL very often for making small proof-of-concept for my work. It is very easy to handle multiple databases with work bench. I also use cloud version of it and the one hosted on cPanels for data hosting purposes.

Pros

1) Biggest benefit that I see with MySQL is it supports addition of columns to desired position (using BEFORE and AFTER keyword), this basic functionality is not provided with premier tools like Postgre SQL.
2) Almost all web hosting providers supports MySQL by default and it is undisputed choice for a lot of PHP based applications.
3) Community support is also widely available, because MySQL can be used at any machine, cloud, bare-metal, and etc.

Cons

There are no cons, it provides all the security features even at open-source level that are equivalent to enterprise level.

Akshi's Review On MySQL

My overall experience with MySQL is great. It helps me in my day to day work and the best thing is that it is easy to use and can handle large amount of data easily.

Pros

The thing which I liked most about MySQL is that MySQL databases are relational and the data is stored in different tables instead of storing all at one place. It is an open source software and fast, reliable, secure and easy to use. It can handle large database easily and the performance is great.

Cons

The cost and pricing plan to use MySQL is very high. It has 3 different plans starting from $2140 per year which I think is expensive.

MySQL: Reliable and Fast, but Lacks Advanced Features

MySQL is fast, easy to use, and great for web apps, but it lacks some advanced features and flexibility compared to databases like PostgreSQL.

Pros

MySQL is valued for being open-source, easy to use, high-performing, scalable, and secure, with strong community support and compatibility across platforms.

Cons

One common criticism of MySQL is its handling of complex queries and lack of advanced features compared to other databases like PostgreSQL. Specifically, its historically weaker support for features like full ACID compliance, advanced indexing, and sophisticated query optimization can be limiting for complex applications.

Being open source and freely available is a significant advantage. It reduces costs for businesses and developers and promotes a collaborative development environment.

Pros

MySQL's combination of being open source, easy to use, and offering strong performance and scalability makes it a popular choice for various applications, from small-scale projects to large-scale enterprise solutions.

Cons

The MyISAM storage engine, while simple and fast for read-heavy workloads, lacks support for transactions and foreign keys. This limitation makes it less suitable for applications that require strong ACID compliance.

MySQL Review

After I realised that there was a bug, I contacted my friends in Uganda and requested them to run their scripts via SQL Server or ORACLE..

MySQL did have a bug though.

I think it has been fixed. Ugandan websites are no longer crashing.

Pros

MySql seems to work for many websites. I think it is good for people who can't afford

Cons

Some years ago, online websites in Uganda were timing out. I found later that they were using MySQL. **I thought there was a bug**

MySQL: A Widely Supported Solution with Some Feature Limitations

I have over 3 years experience with MySQL.

Pros

MySQL is one of the most widely used databases, meaning there’s extensive documentation, community support, and established best practices that can assist in troubleshooting and optimization.

Cons

Compared to other databases like PostgreSQL or Oracle, MySQL lacks some advanced features such as full-text search and partial indexes, which may be a limitation for certain use cases.

SQL Review

Pros

SQL is one of the best programs that deal with relational databases, that is, those that are based on relationships between tables. It also provides many advantages for data, including high protection, privacy, and integrity.

Cons

One of its disadvantages is that it is difficult for beginners to deal with, due to the large number of tools and commands in it

Best RDBMS tool.

It is a useful relational database for storing data.
I always use it with the projects that I create.
As I have seen it as the simplest and easiest among other databases.

Pros

A light program on the computer.
It features a beautiful control interface that makes it easy to use in creating databases, tables, relationships between them, or other services.
It is characterized by taking a backup copy and restoring it smoothly.

Cons

When I am writing queries I found that some are different from the other and I have to search on the Internet to make them work.
Sometimes the large amount of data slows down the insertion, updating and selection process.

Excellent product and fully capable as compared to other mainstream options

For smaller projects, this has been my recommendation to the IT team if at all is a choice to use. The product is scalable (to a degree), efficient, and user friendly.

Pros

MySQL UI is fantastic across the board. There are so many third party UIs as well that work well with its usage and administration

Cons

I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this product.
