About Skype

Skype is a VoIP solution by Microsoft that allows users to make phone calls, host or join video conferences, and send and receive instant messages in one-on-one or group chats. The software is preinstalled on many Windows systems, and is free for basic use, with additional charges for calling local or national phone numbers. Skype is aimed at individuals and only offers basic functions for business users. Skype offers a range of functionality in addition to VoIP telephony to Skype users, cellphones, and landlines. Users can exchange messages and send files to their contacts, and host conferences with or without video streams, with up to 50 participants. Skype also provides screen sharing capabilities, a customizable interface, and the ability to import contacts into an address book. An appointment scheduler allows meetings to be time-limited and participants can be invited to meetings via phone, email, or link sharing. Additionally, Skype's integrated translation software can broadcast live conversations in other languages, translating full sentences and presenting these as subtitles.

A Legend Facing Declining Popularity

Skype is a legend in its field. I’ve been using it since 2010, but unfortunately, its popularity has seen a significant decline in recent years. However, I still use it occasionally because it offers features that other tools don’t, such as the ability to make outgoing phone calls.

Pros

I really like the Copilot feature. When enabled, it appears in the contacts list, and you can chat with it like any other contact. For those who don't know, Copilot is an AI tool that can assist you with almost anything you need. Something's else that I love about Skype is the ability to add credits and make normal phone calls.

Cons

It seems that the last couple of years many users have shifted away from Skype to other communication tools.

Good at first, but ended up not so well

Our overall experience with Skype was much more miss than hit, and with the lacking support from Microsoft themselves, it caused to have to move to different VoIP software.

Pros

Compatibility with existing software, and Skype already being a familiar environment for most of our staff.

Cons

The support, pricing and features were reasons that we least liked Skype the most.

Skype Herramienta Técnologica 4.0

Skype is an application with many good tools and functions, for chat and video call connections, in general the experience has been very good that's why I give it 4 stars, I can't reach 5, it's only because they still need to improve the technology for presentations of business or university projects.

Pros

Its application and tools are easy to use, its interface is intuitive, simple and well connected.

Cons

What I liked least about Skipe is that it lacks automation of its functions for project presentations.

Cons

For me managing contacts and group chats can also be cumbersome, and occasional connectivity issues detract from the overall experience.

I use Skype with my vocal coach. It has been a great experience and the I love that the video recording of our lesson is available almost immediately after each call allowing me to download it.

Pros

Skype has not time limit in video calls. It allows for uninterrupted meetings. It has nice background and the sound quality is great.

Cons

If I have to choose something to improve in Skype it would be privacy. Sometimes, I receive messages and calls from users I do not know.

Pros

With Skype I get easy to use video conferencing for free. Sound and image both come through clearly and it can translate in real time.Skype isn't strictly for Windows, there are versions for Android, Apple, etc. I chose Skype for my company because of the features listed previously and the other communications like chat, SMS, and calling.

Skype-the OG video messaging app

Skype was great when it first came out it was THE video messaging app. The OG. It was an easy way to stay connected even just by audio. In the end the software did not work as well for me as it did in the beginning. I think it is still great and their features are updated and have caught on to all the other communication software but I do feel like for the price there are better ones out there.

Pros

Skype was it when it first came out. I've always loved the video calling, audio calling, screen sharing and messaging.

Cons

At times, my Skype would run very slow. Lots of buffering even with good internet.

Great Product

We have 2 branches in different cities so Skype saves us in long distance calling. We all use the Instant Messaging feature. A lot of our work environment just needs a few word answers amongst employees so its way quicker then drafting an email. The notification pop up helps with users busy screens but even if you miss it, the icon turns orange on the taskbar so it wont be missed.

Pros

Quick, efficient way for our employee's to communicate. Cheap to implement and doesn't bog down the system. Alerts pop-ups perfect since most users have 10-15 windows open and 2-3 monitors at the same time.

Cons

No cons, Microsoft seems to be be pushing Teams however but we prefer to stay on Skype.

Skype Review

Skype has not posed any major issues and is a reliable service for whenever I have online meeting needs. It's a well known brand and people trust it for meeting about both business uses and casual needs like playing games online with friends while keeping a voice chat open without using cell phones.

Pros

It lets any user access remote contact for free and without needing to worry about cell calling limits while providing instant access to powerful tools like streaming your own screen via screen sharing. A game changer for quick day to day meetings in any workplace scenario whether that's an artist to a client showing progress or within a 30 person office for a monthly progress meeting.

Cons

Occasional discconnection issues and needing to share passwords to formal meetings are standard across programs like these, annoying but not limited to Skype by any means.

Was great, but now stuck in the past

It was a great idea back in the days however I have a feeling developers did not made any progress to keep up with a newer apps that have much more to offer. There are many bugs which makes it tough to use the app. It also crashes a lot on Android.

Pros

Available for Desktop and as an App,
easy to deploy, very popular, pretty easy to install.

Cons

Some features are unnecessary complicated -tough to add a phone number to contacts. Not sure why the usernames of people I am not connected with pop up in the search. It is random and makes me questioning if anyone knowing my username can randomly find me.
I purchased a Skype number, there is an error while sending text messages so I can only receive them and never send.No updates, everything is as it was 5 years ago.

Skype..... The software that's easy to use for any instant messaging or calling need!

It's a good software but could use a little work.

Pros

That you can use it for to call a landline or cellphone, and sms messaging. You can use it for video calling and even screen sharing. And it's very easy to use.

Cons

It's great if your just using it for Skype to Skype messaging or calling but it can be a little pricey if you want to use the Skype to landline feature.

A basic tool that does its job

My experience is overall satisfactory. I don't need advanced features, it's enough for chats and calls between 2/3 people . Issues are not overwhelming.

Pros

It serves the purposes of most basic communication activities, I use it mainly for instant messaging with co-workers and for alignment calls.

Cons

Sometimes the call quality is not the best and some messages arrive late.

Great for Meetings and Staying In Touch

One of our members is currently staying far away. Skype has been a very practical tool for us to stay in contact and share ideas for upcoming projects. It's obviously much faster and engaging than sending texts, but it does have that option there as well, for when we need it.

Pros

There are other platforms that do the same thing, such as Facebook Messenger and FaceTime. Not everyone will want to do any sort of serious work over Facebook though, and not event has FaceTime available to them. Skype is a good solution that seems to work across many/most platforms.

Cons

I don't really have any complaints. It's not my favorite tool for video chat. That'd be FaceTime, but for those who aren't on iOS, Skype works well.

Skype review

Skype is relevant and powerful in 2024. It evolves with its business need and has a good reputation worldwide. Its stability is why I use it.

Pros

I like the availability to call friends and colleagues in different countries due to its stability of video conferencing and its robust features.

Cons

Skype’s interaction with other services isn’t as seamless as other alternatives. For businesses that rely on other products in conjunction this could be an issue.

It is a good product.

Overall it is pretty good. It gets the job done, plus it's free. Doesn't work with many people, but great with small groups.

Pros

It is very convenient. I like that you can mention people in chats, and have multiple chats. I like the option of video chats.

Cons

The quality of the picture is not too great, especially if more than 10 people join.

Basic Conference Tool

Pros

Everyone knows how to use it especially in markets where it is still a dominant voip tool.

I am glad Microsoft is still keeping at afloat as many small businesses such as dealerships use it.

Some EU markets are still active on Skype and it helps to stay connected to customers this way.

Cons

With years it became worse and much more integrated into other Microsoft tools.
Having ability to buy minutes and call locally is great, but the quality is not always there.

Skype Review

Overall, it's a reliable tool, though there are now other options that offer more features and a more modern experience.

Pros

The integration of video and voice calling is excellent for distributed teams, and the high-quality video and sound make for a smooth experience. I also appreciate the flexibility of using it on my phone, especially for international calls.

Cons

The interface feels a bit dated, and it lacks some of the advanced features that are now standard among competitors.

A solution for companies

Very pleased. It offers all the resources I need to get closer to my clients and to present my work

Pros

The possibility of meeting people from anywhere in the world in a very practical way. In addition to the question and answer options that make all the difference when I'm talking to my clients.

Cons

Image quality. Clients have sometimes questioned the quality when I'm presenting the work I've commissioned.

Skype is Excellent!

Overall it was a very pleasant experience to use Skype. I was able to connect with family in different parts of the world where other apps have restrictions and no reach ability.

Pros

Skype was an excellent app to connect with my family and friends. I was able to use this on mutiple devices with ease and I liked how it was accessible in all parts of the world

Cons

Sometimes the video chat quality would lag a bit but I think it was mainly due to the load on my network connection and not the software itself.
