> Tokonomics is an AI cost metering proxy designed to monitor token usage and calculate costs in real time. It functions by intercepting API calls to large language model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepSeek. This allows it to record token counts and attribute expenses to specific teams, features, or customers.

The platform operates as a drop-in replacement that requires only a single URL change to integrate. It adds minimal overhead while streaming provider responses in real time. Configurable budget alerts can be set at custom thresholds, with notifications sent through email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or webhooks when spending approaches defined limits. A tag-based attribution system enables cost categorization by various dimensions. An analytics dashboard provides insights into spending trends across models and teams. A REST API is available for custom reporting.

Security features include AES-256 encryption for provider keys at rest, SHA-256 hashing for API keys, and TLS/SSL encryption for all connections. Prompts and completions are not stored. The platform supports unlimited API key creation for team or service-level access control, with instant revocation capabilities. Plaintext keys are displayed only once at creation.

Tokonomics is compatible with any programming language or framework through its standard HTTP proxy architecture, eliminating the need for SDK installation. Data retention periods are thirty days for free accounts and ninety days for paid accounts. Cost calculations are performed with eight-decimal USD precision to ensure accuracy.
