# Contrax

Canonical: https://www.softwareadvice.ie/software/560938/Contrax

> Contrax is construction management software for renovation and trades companies — built by a contractor who runs one.

Most software in this category is aimed somewhere else. Enterprise construction platforms are priced and structured for large commercial builders. Field-service tools are built around recurring call-outs. Renovation work is neither: multi-stage projects, detailed estimates that take hours to build properly, change orders that arrive mid-job, and margins that need watching while the work is still open rather than at year end.

Contrax was written to run a working Ontario renovation company, and still is. It is now sold to other contractors who have the same problem.

Estimating from a walkthrough video

This is the part nobody else does. Record the space on your phone, talking through the work as you go. Contrax reads the footage, writes the scope stage by stage, and prices every line against your own rate card. You review and adjust before anything reaches a client.

A full bathroom estimate that took two hours of takeoff comes back in roughly two minutes. It is a draft, not an oracle — you check every line — but the hours it removes are the ones that only ever existed after supper.

Because pricing comes from a rate card you set once, quotes stay consistent no matter who builds them. Two people quoting the same job land on the same number.

Quotes, contracts and your pipeline

Every enquiry lands in the CRM with its stage, history and follow-ups. Notes, quotes and emails stay attached to the person, so six months later you can see exactly what was promised. Follow-up reminders chase you by text or email, because most work is lost to silence rather than price.

Accepted quotes become live projects and carry their budget across. Nothing is re-entered.

Running the job

Each job holds its phases and tasks, site photos, documents and permits. Change orders are priced and recorded before the work happens, so extras reach the final invoice instead of quietly eating your margin.

A client portal gives homeowners a link showing progress, photos, documents and invoices with a Pay button. It turns "any update?" phone calls into something they can answer themselves.

Crew, hours and payroll

Crew clock in from their phones and hours attach to the job worked, so labour cost is real rather than estimated. Scheduling shows who is on which site, with addresses and details on their phones. Payroll runs off hours already approved — nothing typed twice.

HR records cover certifications with expiry warnings, signed documents, incidents and time off.

Job costing and books that keep up

Costs post against the job as they land: labour from clocked hours, materials from receipts and invoices. Budget against actual is visible while the job is open, so a phase running hot shows up on Wednesday instead of in March.

Bank feeds arrive automatically through a read-only connection — Contrax can see transactions and can never move money. Receipts photographed at the counter are read, matched to the bank transaction, and filed against the job. HST collected and paid is tracked as you go and reported by quarter in the shape the return asks for.

Reports cover profit and loss, per-job costing, HST and more, all built from what is already in the system and exportable for your accountant.

Built in Canada

Contrax is built in Oshawa, Ontario. It prices in CAD and handles HST natively rather than bolting Canadian tax onto a US chart of accounts.

One price

$150 CAD per month covers your entire company. Every module, unlimited users, unlimited jobs, AI included. No per-seat charges, no module tiers, no onboarding fee. Seven-day free trial, no credit card required.

Guided in-app training walks new users through the whole system in short chapters, including a practice job you can build and delete.
