> Zed is an open-source code editor built for individual developers and software engineering teams of any size, across all experience levels. It is available as a native desktop application for macOS, Linux, and Windows, with cloud connectivity for AI features and multiplayer collaboration.

Core features include an AI Agent Panel for prompting agents, reviewing changes, and running parallel threads; an Inline Assistant for transforming selected code in place; and Edit Prediction for next-edit suggestions while typing. Zed supports multiple AI model providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama, and others, or users can run local models. All AI features can be disabled entirely.

Multiplayer tools allow shared editing, terminals, screen sharing, and voice chat without leaving the editor. Built-in Git support covers staging, committing, and diff viewing. A native debugger, Language Server Protocol integration, remote development, Jupyter kernel support, and a built-in terminal round out the feature set.

Zed is free to use without an account for non-AI features. Support is available through community extensions, open-source documentation, and online resources. Its open-source codebase means users can inspect, modify, or build the editor from source.
